NORMAL – The Normal Police Department has released a new mobile app.
The app allows the department to share information such as alerts, photos, events, street closures and traffic flow interruptions.
“Also with this, one of the features, it allows them to call the police department if they need assistance, but one of the big things too is they can provide tips on certain things,” said Police Chief Rick Bleichner. “They can provide their name, email, or it can even be done anonymously.”
The app also allows police to post community surveys.
“They don’t have to wait until they get back to where they’ve got a computer or where they’ve got a landline phone or they don’t have to come into the police department,” said Bleichner. “If they see something, whether it’s on a bulletin or they see a crime occurring and maybe they’re reluctant about getting involved, they can certainly share the information through this app.”
Bleichner noted if it’s an emergency situation, it’s still best to call 911.
