LINCOLN – Lincoln College is the latest school to cover Monetary Award Program grants while the state continues to withhold the money.
Students attending Lincoln College this fall will have their MAP grants fully covered by the college after the Board of Trustees voted to shift resources to make that happen.
President David Gerlach said students are on edge.
“They are concerned,” Gerlach said. “I boldly am thankful to our trustees and the commitment they are making. The number one reason students either fail to begin or fail to succeed are finances.”
Gerlach added the decision wasn’t a slam dunk for the College Board of Trustees.
“The short term for Lincoln College is using some of the finances we have available through our line of credit,” Gerlach said.
Eighty percent of Lincoln College students are MAP grant eligible. Those grants average $4,000.
Garlach said student financial stability is crucial for Lincoln College as it continues its transition from a two-year college to a four-year school.
