BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington-Normal residents might have noticed a few new signs in downtown Bloomington recently.
The signs, which direct drivers to downtown parking, were pointed out as an immediate need of the city’s Downtown Signage Committee. Member Vicki Tilton told WJBC’s Terry James they wanted to eliminate the urban myth that there is a lack of parking in that area.
“We felt the problem is that people don’t know where they can park,” said Tilton. “And so that’s one of the first things we took on as a signage committee was marking the garages that are open and available to the public.”
Member Trisha Stillers said the committee’s work isn’t done yet, as there are more places which need clear signage.
“We have our McLean County Museum of History and the Cruisin’ with Lincoln on 66 Visitor’s Center, which is really, I have to say, at the central focus of our group,” said Stiller. “The numbers are indicating that that’s what people are seeking.”
The group has also talked about ways to mark how to get to and from downtown from the interstates.
