BLOOMINGTON – Elderly and disabled residents of Phoenix Towers in Bloomington are worried about a proposed bus stop change that they say will make it more difficult for them to travel around the twin cities.
Several residents of Phoenix Towers came to a listening session last week to protest the bus stop change. Connect Transit Marketing Manager Melissa Chrisman said the needs of the residents are being considered.
“We’ve talked to the administration at Phoenix Towers and have kinda tried to work through and see if their are any meet in the middles,” said Chrisman. “We have offered up any opportunities for different modes of transportation for those residents that the fixed route service may not work for and we’ve also offered up Connect Mobility which is our curb to curb service.”
Chrisman said the bus stop is only being moved about 500 feet. She admits residents will have to cross Locust street to get to the bus stop, but they will work with the city to make sure there are no timing issues with the stop light crossing.
A final decision will come in a few months.
