BLOOMINGTON – Being a farmer brings big responsibility.
Did you know each American farmer feeds over 144 people?
Steve Myers with Busey Bank had some tips for the next generation of farmers. He said to know your costs by considering living expenses and expenditures.
“Maybe we have raised our standard of living to be lock step with some of those better times that we have had,” said Myers. “So this is an excellent time to look at some of those details and some of those family living expenses. What can we live with and what can we live without.”
Myers said it’s always a good idea to prepare for the leaner years. It may even mean taking on a part time job outside of the farming operation.
