Unemployment in Bloomington-Normal has risen from one year ago according to the latest figures from the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The Bloomington-Normal unemployment rate for January was 6.5 percent, up from 5.3 percent in January 2015. The state jobless rate for January was 7.1 percent.
The local area lost about 1,100 jobs over the year. Unemployment rates in all Illinois metropolitan areas rose except for the Chicago-Naperville-Arlington Heights area which reported a slight drop.
