CHENOA – Chenoa residents will vote on a one-cent sales tax increase on Tuesday.
Mayor Chris Wilder said the city would update an aging water system.
“Items within the water plant itself, the computer sytem that currently operates the pumps need to be upgraded and brought in (with) up to date equipment,” Wilder said.
Wilder says some of the city’s water lines are up to 75 years old. Some of them would be replaced too. The rest of the estimated $100,000 to $150,000 in annual revenue would pay for street and park improvements.
Wilder said he hopes for a better outcome than the sales tax proposal that failed several years ago.
“The last time it was on the ballot it was not presented quite as well as we attempted to do so this time,” Wilder said. “We tried to explains exactly what we wanted to do with this money.”
