LEROY – Christmas is months away, but Toys for Tots is losing help from Mitsubishi employees after last year’s plant closing.
However, another group is ready to step up.
Members of the Leroy American Legion are looking at forming a larger group to make sure children in need do not go without. Jim Soeldner is a District two representative on the county board.
“I’m hoping that the Leroy Legion gets together with other legions in the county and see if they can’t pick up the slack,” said Soeldner.
For years, union employees at Mitsubishi spent thousands of dollars on toys for children signed up for the Toys for Tots program. The Mitsubishi corporation closed the Normal plant on November 30th.
