BLOOMINGTON – State Sen. Bill Brady said a plan to raise the cost of soda one-cent-per-ounce is a typical Democratic proposal.

“All they do is propose tax increases,” Brady said. “They pull money from the average working family who’s struggling right now just to keep their job and paying their bills. That’s not what we need to be talking about right now.”

State Sen. Mattie Hunter has proposed spending the tax money on obesity prevention programs.

Brady told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin he’ll prefer any Republican candidate over the Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

“I don’t think we can afford another 10 years, or four years or eight years of the Barack Obama administration,” Brady said. “They both have pledged to continue dramatically along those lines.”

When asked if he would support front-runner Donald Trump if he were to become the nominee, Brady replied “of course”.

Brady had been supporting Jeb Bush until he dropped out of the race.

Illinois’ primary is March 15.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
