BLOOMINGTON – Redbird Arena is the site for this year’s IHSA Girls Basketball State Finals.

Class 1A and 2A teams will compete on Feb. 26 and 27, while Class 3A and 4A teams will vie for a state title March 4 and 5. Beth Sauser of the IHSA said the finals will feature teams from all over Illinois.

“We have some teams from the Chicago area, Rockford, down south and plenty of other areas,” Sauser said. “We have a great representation from throughout the state.”

The finals could also mean big bucks for the Bloomington-Normal area. Sauser said over 20,000 fans are expected to attend the finals, which means an estimated economic impact of over $1.5 million.

“It’s a great place and the fans really enjoy it,” said Sauser. “They take advantage of our community. Whether it’s gassing up at gas stations, eating at restaurants or staying at our hotels.”

More information on the game and ticket prices can be found by calling the Redbird Arena Ticket Office at (309) 438-8000.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
