BLOOMINGTON- Over 800 people made their way to Miller Park Saturday to jump into the ice cold water. These people though, were not crazy, they were helping support Special Olympics of Illinois.
The 2016 Polar Plunge was again a success for Special Olympics, as a late surge of support put the event right at its $150,000 goal. Donation’s will continue to be accepted until April 29.
Radio Bloomington, including ISU Head Football Coach Brock Spack, was the second largest donation group, bringing in nearly $6500. Spack said Special Olympics means a lot to him and his team. “This is an awesome foundation, a great organization to support,” Spack said. “Our football team has supported Special Olympics since we got here.” Spack was the second largest individual donor, as the coach brought in $2785.
The event at Miller Park has routinely been the largest plunge in the state, beating out the other 20 locations in previous years. Plunges will continue across Illinois until March 20.
