Ruth Laverne Schirer, 93, of Palm Bay, Fla., a Normal native, died at 9:15 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Wuesthoff Hospice House, Rockledge, Fla..
Her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with grandson Todd Kempton from Texas officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood/West Twin Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral.
Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
She was born May 19, 1922 in Normal, a daughter of Arthur E. and Alberta G. Simmons Bean. She married Kenneth Schirer Feb. 22, 1942 in Secor. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Surviving are three sons: Richard, LaMirada, Calif.; David, Mahomet; and Thomas, Melbourne, Fla.; three daughters: Linda, New Orleans, La.; Mary, Melbourne, Fla.; and Sandra Nolte, Palm Bay, Fla.; one sister, Blanche Dunbar, Bloomington; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the West Melbourne Church of Christ, West Melbourne, Fla., and had worked for the US postal service in California and Illinois. She moved to Palm Bay, Fla. in 2010.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local Hospice Foundation.
