SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Bruce Rauner has vetoed a Democrat-backed bill to fund MAP grants and community colleges.
Rauner said in a statement Friday that the bill would add $721 million to the state’s deficit and he criticized lawmakers for sending him the same proposal from the Democrat-supported budget he vetoed several months ago.
Instead, Rauner said lawmakers should support a proposal that would fund all of higher education worth $1.6 billion, but it would also give him, the comptroller and the treasurer more power to reallocate money within the budget.
