BLOOMINGTON – Illinois State University, the City of Bloomington, and the McLean County Soil and Water Conservation District have announced the results of a survey asking residents near Lake Bloomington and Evergreen Lake about the quality of their water.
ISU Sociology Professor Joan Brehm explained the results of the survey were mostly positive.
“People rated our water quality as pretty good, which is really important,” said Brehm. “We also found that people do have a concern for the future of our water sources, in terms of, do we have enough quantity to meet out growing demands going forward?”
Brehm added residents also recognize the importance water quality plays in both health and recreation.
“It also helps us to begin to plan for the future water needs,” said Brehm. “Knowing that people are concerned about the future of our water quality is really important because then we can start to investigate, what are the possible alternatives?”
The survey, which Brehm said had a 58 percent response rate, was funded partially through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
