BLOOMINGTON – The McLean County Museum of History is preparing to celebrate Presidents’ Day with the unveiling of a new plaque.
The annual celebration will get started at noon on Monday by the introduction of the interpretive plaque and will also include games, crafts and refreshments. Education Program Coordinator with the Museum Hannah Johnson said the plaque will be a historical addition to Downtown Bloomington.
“The plaque will interpret that marker in the sidewalk and indicate where the perimeter of the foundation is of the former Lincoln-era courthouse,” Johnson said. “That was what they unveiled during the 2014 archeological dig on the visitor’s center.”
Along with the unveiling of the historical plaque, Johnson said the celebration has something for the whole family.
“It’s a free, family friendly event,” said Johnson. “There will be activities for folks of all ages, games, crafts, our annual mock election and cakes from Sweet Temptations.”
Johnson explained what the mock election is all about.
“People will have an opportunity to spin to win for their candidates since it’s yet to be determined exactly who will be on the ballot,” Johnson said. “Everyone will be required to register to vote, and then they’ll spin the wheels, find their candidates and vote for them.”
Johnson said results will then be announced on social media later in the day. More information on the event can be found by contacting the Museum’s Educational Department at education@mchistory.org or by calling (309) 827-0428.
