NORMAL, Ill- The Illinois State Redbirds women’s basketball team was outscored 80-40 in the final three quarters of its contest against Drake, falling 98-58 at Redbird Arena.
Illinois State led by as many as six in the first quarter before Drake battled back to a tied the game at the quarter break.
Drake used a 13-2 run early in the second quarter to pull away for good, with Illinois State’s last lead coming at the 38 second mark of the first quarter.
The Bulldogs connected on 15-3 pointers in the victory. Every member of Drake’s team that entered the game collected at least one 3-pointer.
Illinois State was led in scoring by Katrina Beck, who collected 13 points while Shakeela Fowler added 12.
Drake was led by Lizzy Wendell’s 26 points. Sara Rhine added 20. Maddy Dean and Rhine tied for a game-high nine rebounds.
Illinois State falls to 4-7 in MVC play and a 6-16 mark on the regular season.
The Redbirds return to action Sunday for a 7 p.m. tip against Northern Iowa at Redbird Arena.
