BLOOMIGNTON – A new law called the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act has led the Illinois Department of Employment Security to close Bloomington’s unemployment office.
“(It’s) basically designed to bring all the employment and training and education focus together under one roof,” IDES Director Jeff Mays.
Mays added there will still be an unemployment office presence in the Twin Cities.
“Not to file,” said Mays. “To address employment service issues.”
Mays said the nearest places to file unemployment will be Peoria, Springfield, and Decatur.
Two more unemployment offices in the state are also closing this spring because of the law. The closures are expected to save IDES about $2 million.
