BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Police Department has made an arrest following an alleged armed robbery Wednesday night.
Police said they began an investigation after a patient with a gunshot wound at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center said he was robbed at gun point and shot in the leg in the area of Lang’s Alley and Jackson Street in Bloomington. The shooting was believed to be related to a dispute over illegal drugs.
BPD’s SWAT team executed a search warrant at 711.5 West Jackson Street, where Richard Sims, 18, of Bloomington, was taken into custody.
Sims is being charged with aggravated assault with a firearm resulting in injury. He’s being held at the McLean County Jail. Police said no other suspects are being sought.
