DECATUR- The Illinois Wesleyan Titans used a strong end to the first half to take home a victory over the Big Blue of Millikin Wednesday night, 73-51.
The Big Blue took an early 9-3 lead to start the contest, but IWU quickly recovered with a few three-pointers of their own, plus some stout defense which made the score even at nine.
The Titans and Big Blue would keep pace with each other throughout most of the first half, with the Titans keeping a lead for the majority of the period. IWU would begin to pull away through the last five minutes of the half, using a 9-0 run to take a nine point lead. That advantage would hold until the half, as IWU lead 38-29.
The second half was dominated early and often for the Titans, as they doubled up the Big Blue over the first five minutes of the half, 10-5. Millikin would try and get back into it at several junctures, but the Titan shooting attack was too strong.
IWU shot 59% from the field compared to Millikin’s 28%.
IWU had four players in double digits, led by Trevor Seibring, who put in 16 points. IWU will next be in action at home on Saturday vs North Central.
