NORMAL – The Town of Normal has entered into a new agreement with Joe’s Towing for police towing services.
The town council approved the deal this week. Under the new three year agreement, the base tow rate of $60 remains the same, however a $35 fee for vehicles which end up in police impound is being added.
“If there were going to be increases, we wanted to put those in the areas where their services had seen an increase,” said Police Chief Rick Bleichner. “In talking with them, representatives from their company, they are seeing many more vehicles that are being unclaimed and are staying in their yard for an extended period of time.”
Bleichner added Normal’s towing rates are lower than other communities.
“Bloomington’s rates, although there’s is a little bit different because they have a franchise agreement that they go into with their vendor, which happens to be Joe’s, but they’re rates are higher than what our rates are for towing,” said Bleichner. “The Champaign-Urbana area, their rates are considerably higher than what we would pay here.”
Normal has been working with Joe’s for towing services since 1993.
