BLOOMINGTON – Illinois concealed carry instructor and gun advocate Mike Bius was not a fan of the president’s actions Tuesday on gun control.
“It’s really just politics,” said Bius. “It’s not addressing the problem and it’s really a shame.”
President Obama’s actions included more background checks and a boost in gun safety technology.
“This is not about guns. This is about control,” said Bius. “Under the Obama Administration, federal prosecution of gun crimes is down to the levels that we haven’t seen since the year 2000.”
Bius spoke Tuesday with WJBC’s Terry James.
Bius believed the nation already has the tools to properly enforce gun control.
“If you want to save lives, number one, enforce the federal laws we already have on the books instead of going after people who offend someone using non-politically correct speech,” he said.
As an example, Bius pointed to a case in Bloomington where a man was convicted of home invasion with a gun, but spent just two years in prison.
