NORMAL – The Salvation Army of McLean County received $1,000 from a single donor Tuesday in one of its red kettles.
Salvation Army spokeswoman Angie Fulton said they don’t see that everyday.
“A kettle on a certain day might bring in a couple hundred (dollars), so for it to bring in a thousand plus whatever else was in there is huge,” Fulton said. “That was obviously somebody who went and got that out of their bank and specifically brought it to us to put in one of our kettles. It wasn’t just someone carrying that money around.”
Fulton said no one knows who the donor is, including the bell ringers at the Wal Mart in Normal where the donation was found.
“Whoever did it is very sneaky about it and kept it a secret,” Fulton said.
The Salvation Army of McLean County has raised $221,000 through its red kettles this year and it still needs another $9,000 to meet its goal. The overall fundraising campaign for the year is about $70,000 short of its goal of $480,000.
