BLOOMINGTON – District 87 school board member and current president John Dirks is resigning from the board.
A board member since 2001, Dirks served as president for the last time Wednesday night before he moves out of the district. Superintendent Barry Reilly said Dirks will be greatly missed.
“I couldn’t be more fortunate to have been able to work with and for him,” Reilly said. “I’ve been around him for a long time and he’s done a phenomenal job.”
Reilly said the district is losing a great president.
“John Dirks has been a board member who has been a great steward to the community,” said Reilly. “He’s been a terrific ambassador for the district. He’s just a solid man who’s a great role model for other public servants.”
In his final meeting, Dirks thanked students in the district for always going the extra mile to learn.
As for the next board president, Reilly said the district will accept letters of interest once Dirks’ resignation is official on Dec. 29. The board hopes to have the position filled by February.
