BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington’s fire chief is calling a local man a hero.
The man used his fire extinguisher to save the life of another person. Fire Chief Brian Mohr said it happened Thanksgiving day on the ninth floor of North Woodhill Tower.
“So we just thought that it was a heroic incident where this individual sacrificed himself for somebody else,” said Mohr. “Luckily, no one was injured that day.”
David Cummings was able to limit the fire to the mattress and some bedding.
“I wasn’t scared,” said Cummings. ” I was a little nervous. I didn’t get scared until the fire was out and I was done talking to everybody.”
Cummings received extensive fire training while working for Nestle many years ago.
