BLOOMINGTON – Home Sweet Home Ministries is wrapping up another successful Give Thanks campaign.
The organization, along with its partner Midwest Food Bank, was able to distribute about 8,000 meals between its two distribution days on Saturday and Monday. Communications coordinator Chyanne Corrigan said both days had a huge turnout, despite the rough weather on Saturday.
“The line was wrapped around the block by the Midwest Food Bank,” said Corrigan. “All together on Saturday, about 930 boxes were distributed, so that equals to about 4,000 individual meals were served.”
Corrigan added they were able to meet their goal of 2,000 turkey donations.
“Even still, turkeys are kind of rolling in,” said Corrigan. “It’s just been cool to see the community really come together.”
Those extra turkeys will be used in part for the roughly 530 Thanksgiving meals Home Sweet Home will distribute to people who aren’t able to leave their homes.
Corrigan explained the group’s partnership with Midwest Food Bank is just one reason the campaign is successful each year.
“I would say it’s the community. They, kind of, know every year that we do this thing,” she said.
Home Sweet Home first began handing out Thanksgiving meals in 1917.
