NORMAL – The Town of Normal has officially approved the Uptown 2.0 Master Plan, but City Manager Mark Peterson is making sure everyone knows this doesn’t mean everything the plan calls for will end up happening.
“Remember, this is a plan. It’s not a contract. It’s not a guarantee,” said Peterson. “It’s a roadmap, but it doesn’t mean that’s the road we’re going to take.”
A major plan outlines is a pedestrian underpass for the railroad near Uptown Station.
“The plan also acknowledges the complications in getting such an underpass approved and funded,” said Peterson. “It also discusses other options in the plan for getting pedestrian access from one side of the tracks to the other.”
Peterson added Normal is “actively” working on what exactly to do for a pedestrian crossing. He believed the town will have clearer direction on the issue in the first quarter of the new year.
