BLOOMINGTON – Train a Dog, Save a Warrior, or TADSAW for short, is a program that helps veterans with traumatic brain injuries or PTSD.
It works by pairing the veteran with a dog that’s trained according to American Disability Act standards.
“The program was started because 22 veterans committ suicide a day and we found that through the therapy of having a dog by their side, the numbers declined,” local TADSAW trainer Tina Zimmerman said.
TADSAW doesn’t charge veterans for the program. Instead, the not-for-profit organizations runs off charity donations. More information about how to donate can be found at TADSAW.org.
