You may be used to receiving antibiotics when you’re under the weather, but Illinois Director of Public Health Nirav Shah tells WJBC’s Terry James you should ask your doctor if those are really necessary.
He says that because of the over use of antibiotics many people are developing infections that are antibiotic resistant.
“The main driving factors behind this resistance are the overuse and misuse of antibiotics,” Said Shah. “We’re at a point right now where at least two million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics and at least 23,000 die as a direct result of these infections.”
Shah says if your doctor does feel antibiotics should be used, take them as directed.
Do not stop once you are feeling better.
