BLOOMINGTON – A local woman wants to help residents say thank you to those who have served the country this Veterans Day.
Nancy Bevridge of Heyworth is carrying on her tradition of leaving donation bins at local Jewel-Osco stores as well as the IGA store in Heyworth in hopes of collecting “comfort items.”
“Those are the things you would use in the bathroom,” Bevridge said. “Toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, body lotion and they really like the body wash. The veterans skin is getting so thin, they like to use the body wash.”
Bevridge said that with nearly 400 veterans living in Illinois, every donation counts.
“So many have no connections outside, no one comes to see them, they have no family at all,” said Bevridge. “When they need some comfort item, they’re dependent on donations to supply it.”
Donations can be made until Sunday with two thirds of the items collected going to the Quincy Veterans Home and others going to the home in Danville.
