SPRINGFIELD – Beef is getting bad marks with the World Health Organization and some think the report is unfair.

The report says processed meats and red meat can increase the chance of cancer by 17-percent.  Illinois Beef Association Vice President Reid Blossom says it’s not fair to group meat with cigarettes which increase the risk of cancer by 2000-percent.

“I think it’s important to look at some of the other elements that have been reviewed and that highest risk category includes other products like cigarettes and alcohol,” said Blossom.

Blossom says lean beef can be part of an overall healthy lifestyle that can decrease your risk of cancer.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
