SPRINGFIELD – The Governor hopes to hash out details of a balanced budget with reforms during a meeting he has scheduled for next month between himself and legislative leaders.
In a letter to the four legislative leaders late last week, Gov. Bruce Rauner said he wants to meet either in Springfield or Chicago the morning of Nov. 18.
House Speaker Mike Madigan’s spokesman, Steve Brown, said Madigan won’t commit to the meeting until he sees an agenda and he hopes the meeting will focus only on the budget.
“As long as the push is there to do all these non-budget things, many of which don’t even kick in until the next decade, it’s hard to say you can have a resolution,” Brown said. “But we’re anxious to have one. The state should have a budget.”
However the Governor’s letter said he wants to meet to find a balanced budget alongside structural reforms.
