SPRINGFIELD – From concept to legislation, the idea of selling the James R. Thompson Center has officially been filed in the Illinois General Assembly.
House Minority Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) filed House Bill 4313 this week that allows the sale the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago in three ways: auction, sale or lease, or a public-private partnership lease.
The measure filed Wednesday states any money from the sale or lease would be deposited into the state’s General Revenue Fund and must be completed no later than three years after the measure is passed.
Gov. Bruce Rauner announced his intention to sell the property saying it would be a winning move for taxpayers in Chicago and across the state.
