BLOOMINGTON – Voting has begun at the local United Auto Workers hall as Mitsubishi Motors employees vote on a tentative contract.

The union Local 2488 reached agreement with the automaker last week on a contract to replace a deal that ended in August and has since been extended twice. Talks began shortly before Mitsubishi Motors announced it was going close the plant. Production is scheduled to end on Nov. 30 and all operations will be phased out by next May.

Hundreds of Mitsubishi workers attended a meeting on Monday in which the union leadership reviewed details of the tentative agreement which have not been released to the public.

Voting is scheduled to end at 5 a.m. Thursday.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
