BLOOMINGTON – A man accused of stealing over $100,000 from the union representing McLean County sheriff’s deputies has pleaded guilty to felony theft charges.

Jay Hobson was treasurer of the county’s police union when the theft occurred between November 2011 and July 2014. He resigned from his position as a sheriff’s deputy in August 2014 after the loss of funds was reported to other union officials.

The prosecution argued the theft kept the union from making donations to charities, like The Baby Fold and Big Brothers Big Sisters of McLean County.

Hobson could see four to 15 years in prison or probation when he’s sentenced Dec.2.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
