WASHINGTON – The abrupt departure of Congressman Kevin McCarthey from the contest for Speaker of the House concerns U.S. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois.

Durbin says he is most troubled by an ultimatum from the Freedom Caucus which said that any future Speaker of the House that they would support would not enter into any compromises with the Senate.

“I can just tell you that’s a guarantee for disaster when it comes to our budget and to this nation’s economy,” said Durbin. “So I hope cooler heads will prevail.  And the republicans will link up with Democrats to get something done.”

Durbin says the House of Representatives Republican Conference is currently in Chaos.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
