SPRINGFIELD – Expect Illinois’ budget crisis and inability to pay big winners of the Illinois Lottery to get lampooned in front of a national television audience.
Illinois Lottery officials have confirmed they were contacted by cable network Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” last week on a story about the budget impasses impacts on big Lottery payouts but declined further comment.
The Times in Ottawa reports Comedy Central’s film crew was in Oglesby this past weekend to interview one of the plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit against Illinois Lottery for not paying out on winnings of $25,000 or more.
The Lottery still honors winnings up to $25,000 but says because of a lack of appropriation they can’t pay out winnings above that threshold.
