BLOOMINGTON – It’s harvest time and farm vehicles are going to be out on the roadways.
McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage said those vehicles need to be respected, no matter how slow they’re going.
“We always encourage people to be more cautious but this time of year, especially, since you’re dealing with equipment that takes up a majority of the road,” Sandage said.
Sandage said another way to stay safe around farm equipment is to stay off your cell phone.
“There’s a lot of people out there that think ‘hands-free’ means holding your phone away from your head,” Sandage told WJBC’s Terry James while laughing. “It’s a big distraction and a big safety issue.”
Sandage said texting while driving can be more dangerous than driving drunk.
