BLOOMINGTON – Two people escaped from a burning home unharmed after a fire broke out in a downstairs bathroom overnight.

Bloomington Fire Department Deputy Chief of Operations Les Siron says fire crews were called to the home 713 S. Clayton St. at 11 p.m. and found fire on the outside in the rear of the home, extending to the second floor.

The fire was quickly extinguished but there was heavy fire damage to a first-floor bathroom and smoke and heat damage to the second floor.

Fire damage was estimated at $35,000 to the structure and its contents.

Siron said the occupants were alerted by a smoke detector and were able to exit without any injuries.

He added the fire is listed as unintentional and started in a light fixture above the sink.

The fire burnt through the outer wall and then extended into the second floor of the residence.

Siron said the occupants were being assisted by family members.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
