BLOOMINGTON – The man accused of stabbing two people and beating another in downtown Bloomington on Aug. 19 has been ruled unfit to stand trial.
McLean County Judge Scott Drazewski issued the ruling Thursday.
Jason Hopkins, 35, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault after being arrested for the attacks. Drazewski ordered a mental health evaluation during Hopkins’ arraignment last week, a hearing in which Hopkins spit on the judge.
McLean County State’s Attorney Jason Chambers said Hopkins will be sent to an in-patient treatment center within the Illinois Department of Human Services. Hopkins will stay in treatment for up to a year at which time he will be ruled fit to stand trial or remanded to IDHS.
