SPRINGFIELD – More than 1,000 Illinois Department of Corrections employees are getting free credit monitoring services after their personal information was inadvertently leaked through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Earlier this month IDOC discovered names, jobs ranks and positions, salaries and Social Security numbers of more than 1,000 employees at two different correctional facilities were included in a FOIA request to a private citizen. The information was discovered by IDOC mailroom staff when the civilian sent the information to an inmate.
IDOC officials say they are conducting a full audit of their FOIA unit and implementing streamlined procedures to prevent further inadvertent disclosures.
