SPRINGFIELD – It’s not just more than a thousand federal government employees implicated in the recent hacker-exposed list of people using a website for extramarital affairs, there are also a few state employee emails in the mix.
The massive data dump by hackers of users’ personal information of the Ashley Madison website includes at least six email addresses from Illinois state government, according to Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office. A statement says of the six, four are associated with people who no longer work for the state.
Rauner’s office says an investigation is ongoing to see if any agency policies were violated and discourages using state emails for non-governmental purposes.
A state official familiar with the situation says no other details will be made available because of the ongoing internal investigation.
