SPRINGFIELD – Illinois’ harvest could be lackluster, with the “good to excellent” rating stuck at 50 percent for soybeans and 56 percent for corn.
If you’re unhappy with how things are going, “there’s very little a producer can do at this point in time,” said Mark Schleusener, state statistician for the USDA in Illinois. He says soybean farmers can hope “a slow inch of rain, and then let’s wait five, six, seven days, and let’s have another slow inch of rain.”
Illinois corn is 84 percent at or beyond the dough stage. Illinois soybeans are 81 percent setting pods. Both are roughly a little short of last year at this time.
