BLOOMINGTON – The summer is winding down, but its still a popular time for burglaries.
Bloomington Police spokesperson Sarah Mayer said it can be easy to become a target.
“Let’s say a birthday or holiday, you get a new big screen TV or something awesome like that, then you put it out on the curb, the box,” Mayer said. “You just told a burglar about what’s in your home and TVs are a popular item stolen in residential burglaries.”
Mayer said you should close and lock your windows at night or whenever you leave the house. And if you go on vacation, tell your neighbors so any mail or newspapers outside won’t pile up and indicate to a potential burglar that no one is home.
