PEORIA – Former Congressman Aaron Schock is continuing his fight against federal prosecutors that want him to turn over his congressional office records.
Attorneys for Schock filed court papers Wednesday criticizing the government’s request earlier this month to have the records turned over to investigators.
Schock is the subject of a federal probe into his use of taxpayer and campaign funds. He walked away from his congressional seat in March.
In Wednesday’s filing, one of Schock’s attorneys, former federal prosecutor Jeff Lang, called the government’s argument “illogical” and said it contained “factual misstatements.” Another group writing a brief on Schock’s behalf, a group of attorneys representing the U.S. House, said the Justice Department is hypocritical and once defended Richard Nixon by saying he personally owned documents from his time in office.
