BLOOMINGTON – Two people from Normal have been sentenced for their roles in robbing a man at gunpoint.
McLean County judge Robert Freitag has sentenced Tony Bernal, 34,to 8.5 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to armed robbery charges following a plea agreement. Katie Welch, 26, reached a plea agreement on a charge of aggravated robbery. She faces three years probation after serving 77 days behind bars.
The two were arrested in May. According to court documents, Bernal entered an apartment on Orlando Avenue in Normal and punched a man who lives there, took the man’s gun and pointed it at his head. Bernal and Welch made off with the gun, the victim’s wallet, cash, cellphone and prescription drugs.
