PEORIA – The Peoria Chiefs gave up five runs in the first two innings and eventually fell 10-2 to the Beloit Snappers Friday night.
The loss snaps a six-game Peoria winning streak and drops the Chiefs to 13-9 in the second half and 46-44 overall on the season going into a three-game road series in Burlington.
The Snappers scored in the first against Chiefs starter Dewin Perez. Joe Bennie led off with a walk and Max Kuhn homered to left to give Beloit a 2-0 lead. Two batters later Sandber Pimentel singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Iolana Akau walked and James Harris singled to load the bases. Two batters later Argenis Raga singled to score Pimentel and Akau before Harris was thrown out at third to end the inning with Beloit leading 4-0.
Beloit added to their lead in the second inning. With two out Max Kuhn doubled and scored on a single by Yairo Munoz for ta 5-0 Snappers lead.
The Snappers extended their lead in the fifth against new Chiefs hurler Nicholas Frey. Munoz led off and walked. He scored on an errant pickoff throw by Frey to make it 6-0. Akau reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced to second on a single by Harris and scored on a single by Justin Higley. After Harris was retired at third on a fielders choice groundout by Raga, Higley and Raga scored on a double by Tim Proudfoot to make it 9-0.
The Chiefs got on the board in the fifth against Snappers starter Junior Mendez. Jake Gronsky led off with a walk and Jhohan Acevedo reached base on an error. Both scored on a double by Paul DeJong to make it 9-2.
The Snappers added another run in the sixth against new Chiefs pitcher Anderson Gerdel. With two out Pimentel drew a walk and scored on a triple by Akau to make it 10-2.
Perez (1-3) took the loss on the mound, going 3 1/3 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out two. Frey allowed four runs on three hits and two walks over 1 2/3 innings. Gerdel pitched three innings and gave up one run on two hits and one walk, striking out four. Dixon Llorens pitched one scoreless inning, striking out the side and allowing two hits and a walk.
