PEORIA – The Peoria Chiefs used seven strong innings from Luis Perdomo and a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Beloit Snappers in a seven-inning, rain shortened game Thursday night.
The win is the Chiefs’ sixth in a row and lifts them to 13-8 for the second half and 46-43 overall with one game remaining on the current home stand.
The Snappers started the scoring in the third against Chiefs starter Luis Perdomo. With two outs Max Kuhn singled and scored on a double by Yairo Munoz to make it 1-0 Beloit. The inning ended when the next batter Sandber Pimentel was called out on runner’s interference.
The Chiefs tied the game in the fifth against Beloit starter Daniel Gossett. Steve Bean led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by Luis Cruz. Bean scored when Jake Gronsky doubled off the left field wall to make it 1-1.
The Chiefs took the lead with a pair of runs in the seventh as the rain started. Gronsky singled with one out and moved to second when Kenny Peoples-Walls reached on an error. Another Beloit error loaded the bases when Jhohan Acevedo reached first on a fielders’ choice. Gronsky and Peoples-Walls scored on a single by Oscar Mercado to make it 3-1 before the umpires called for the tarp.
Perdomo (5-7) got the win with seven innings of one-run ball, allowing seven hits and recording eight strikeouts for his second straight start.
