BLOOMINGTON – Public comment is up for discussion again Monday night at the Bloomington City Council meeting.
In June, aldermen chose not to go forward with a proposal to limit residents to only speaking about items on the agenda.
“It does appear that the majority of the council just wants to maintain the status quo and not really change the city comment rules or regulations,” city manager David Hales said.
Hales said the new proposal only makes minor changes.
“We have added just a few non-substantive clean-up items to the ordinance, which are really more technical,” said Hales. “But overall, even if the council were to approve the so-called clean-up amendment, nothing really is changing.”
Hales explained one change would officially put wording in requiring public comment at Committee of the Whole meetings. He said the city already does this, but it’s not something that’s officially required.
