NORMAL – A promotion at Tuesday night’s CornBelters game resulted in an ordinance violation.
The promotion was the Banana Derby, where monkeys rode on the backs of dogs. But Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner said a concerned citizen called and was worried about the public’s exposure to a primate in an unauthorized facility.
“The officers didn’t believe that the ballpark was an authorized facility and also, (the monkeys) were allowed to come into contact with the public and the kids there,” Bleichner said. “That was a change made to the ordinance sometime last year.”
Bleichner said all parties were cooperative.
Phillip Doles of Oak Brook Terrace, the monkey’s handler, was hit with an ordinance violation. The fine ranges from $25 to $500.
