CLINTON – A group of business leaders and celebrities wants the president to reject legislation that would prohibit the FDA from putting labels on food containing genetically modified organisms, or GMOs.
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, said he’s been reading up on the subject since he was appointed to the House subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research.
“As I’ve found out, sometimes science doesn’t win that debate, hysteria does,” Davis said. “I think there’s a lot misinformation out there. There are plenty of internet stories regarding a wide variety of products that holes and skepticism can be put forth just by reading them and putting forth (extra) research.”
The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 has been proposed and sent to Davis’ subcommittee, but it hasn’t been called for a vote. It would prohibit the government from requiring companies to label GMO foods.
